In most cases, you will place an offer for a home and then you have to wait a little bit to hear a response. This is because the seller is likely talking to their agent and figuring out what may be going on with their counteroffer. 9 times out of 10, you are going to get a counteroffer, because the seller and their agent want to get the most that they can out of the investment in question. Don’t take too long to respond to the counteroffer – talk to your agent right away and make a decision. Whether you’re putting in another counteroffer or you’re going to walk away, you want to make sure that you’re making the decision. If you’re too slow, the seller has the option to go ahead and sell to someone else while s/he is waiting for a response from you.
Try to Stay Within Your Boundaries and Budget
We all have a number in mind when it comes to buying a home. It may be the number that the bank gave us when we got approved for a mortgage, or it may be the number that you have in mind when it comes to dealing with your monthly payments. Either way, you want to make sure that you keep those numbers in mind during the negotiation process. Not only will that allow you to stay within your means, but it can also ensure that you have a point where you can say that you have to walk away if the seller isn’t going to budge.
It can be hard to negotiate the home price that you want to pay, but it’s well worth it if you can make sure that your home is in the best condition possible when you finally get things taken care of.
