How To Drive More Traffic To Your Podcast

podcast

Most times we do not think about business spirituality. However, your customers might be more interested in working with someone who does. We are launching our podcast soon for the second time, and I wanted to share a few things that work. These how to drive more traffic ideas are useful for online events, in office instances, or other types of occasions.

Call On Your Tribe To Drive More Traffic

Every business including a new startup has a tribe. When we use spirituality in our work, we think of these people as friends and individuals who enjoy the same things. They are your people, your tribe. Some might work for you. Who was your first client? Think about prior internships or jobs and whom do you know there to contact about your event or podcast. Social media can be helpful.

Regardless of the medium you are sharing create a big glossy flyer then place them on walls or counters of local businesses with permission. QR codes are free to set up and put on your flyer. This is to drive more traffic offline.

For online use the same flyer design to share as a banner or image on social media or your website. Send it to your trusted friends and business collaborators only. Don’t spam all the people on Facebook, or LinkedIn. Twitter and Pinterest are a different story.

Using Social Media to Drive More Traffic To Your Podcast

For the first event:

With Twitter, you can send a separate tweet out daily to your feed. I suggest once daily at dissimilar times for as far out as 7 to 5 days. Twenty-four hours before your podcast send a separate tweet every 2-4 hours. Be sure to do a 10-minute curtain call with the link once again.

“Talking today with Tom Hanks about his role in Sully. 4 pm PST [link].” Then the next tweet might say, “What would you do if you had to fly a plane into a river? Get Tom Hanks opinion on Sully at 4 pm PST [link].” Because we are also talking about the role of spirituality in business finally, “Did Sully tap God to fly his plane into the Hudson River, Tom Hanks thoughts today 4 pm [link].”

Pinterest is a one-shot idea unless you have several images you have copyrights to use. Then try posting a few days out, and then once the day of the podcast.

If you gain a following on either of these for your podcast, you can only post once that it’s time for your show a few hours before on Pinterest and Twitter following through with a 10-minute curtain call for Twitter.

Expect it to take time with social media. Facebook and LinkedIn only broadcast once a few days before. Then you can send out a reminder again 10 minutes before.

Local traffic and Podcasting

Driving more local traffic helps fill in gaps while you build your online tribe. Using the flyers at local networking events, your church, and other organizations will bring in people who believe they should support you because you have backed their endeavors.

Planning comes in handy here. Start a month out to share your podcast or another occasion with these networks. If you haven’t been active for at least three months, don’t expect much. Many groups have a sweet-spot for when they consider you part of the team. You might think it’s not very spiritual. We earn our place in the group by showing up. Show up and do for others what you desire done for you. That’s business spirituality working.

Drive More Traffic By Offering Something Special

For many years podcasts were unique, and people flocked to listen. Your podcast has to bring in something people want, or they will not listen and make time. Ask yourself if doing the show alone is the best service to your listeners.

The key to guests is that they must offer something educational for 90% of the show. I had a woman on once who just tried to sell her training every way she could. She used phrases like, ‘with my program; you’ll gain confidence’ instead of giving the audience tools to gain confidence.

3 Things you can do to make a better Podcast
  1. Give away as much education or mentoring as you can if you’re the guest.
  2. If you’re the host, give your invitee guidelines and do a little roleplaying with them to make sure they understand.
  3. If they can have a handout, they can download on your website. This too drives more traffic to your site, their offer, and your podcasts.

Bonus something! I like to add something to the pot. Each time I have a webinar or podcast, I’ll offer a free coaching session to one ‘winner’. Whether you’re live or recorded, you can throw in an offer. If a guest is offering a 25% discount on their upcoming workshop, I add in my bonus of a 30-minute ‘get in balance’ coaching call. The winner must have signed up and paid for the seminar and be the first person to signup.

Driving more traffic to your podcast should be done by both you and your speaker. I like to take any lists from a call and share them. If we are indeed practicing spiritual business principles, we know there is always enough. With the list of their sign ups, I can offer additional benefits, in turn, my guest can market this double bonus and signup more people sent to the podcast after the fact.

Once you have your show up for a while, if you’re good, people will schedule to listen each time. These repeat listeners hear the offers and see the value. Again it’s key to make it 90% educational and inspiring. The last few minutes make the offer.

This is how I drive more traffic to my podcasts. Make it worth your time and their effort. You want committed listeners who love you and what you do. How to drive more traffic to any event is this simple.
