“If it sounds too good to be true it probably is”. How many times have you heard this type of advice from “the experts” and well meaning people in your life? I recently received an email from a company that had that phrase on the bottom of their email. This phrase is used over and over in every category of life.
Recently my husband and I decided to go to a music concert that was sold out. We went online to see if anyone was selling tickets last minute. I found an ad with the tickets for half price. My first thought was, fantastic, I hope they are still available, because the ad was placed 9 hrs. earlier. To my surprise they were! The next day I arranged to meet the seller to pick up the tickets and said, I was so surprised to find these still available since you posted it 9 hrs. earlier than I contacted you. He said, “I had so many inquiries, at least 30, but you were the first person to commit, so I held them for you.” We went to the concert and had a fantastic time!
This was another reminder that people are conditioned to be so skeptical, and are afraid to commit to things…30 people could have had the fabulous experience we did, but probably bought into this phrase. I could have done the same thing….I could have thought, “why didn’t anyone else buy the tickets at this price, it must be too good to be true.”
Now this was not a life decision, it was a concert, but this same thinking that most in society have been conditioned to buy into holds people back from so much they could be experiencing.
The key is to trust yourself to make good decisions. When I spoke with this person on the phone initially, I asked specific questions. When I met with him, I made sure it was a very public place.
To experience great things in life, stop buying into the conditioned beliefs you hear going on around you. When you become aware of conditioned beliefs, it will surprise you how often you hear these phrases in every day conversation, both in business and in personal life. It is a choice to accept this thinking. Learn to make your own decisions from the heart, listen to your own intuition and not the voice of society. We are given intuition for a reason….to guide us in the right direction.
