I can admit that I love buying new things. Admittedly, I’m a professional shopper (literally – I shop with and for clients!). On a personal level my professional shopping skills can be dangerous on my wallet. Being surrounded by all the things I love on a nearly daily basis when working with my clients has really made me test my will-power!
Now, even though I do shop for a living, I love finding a good deal – some say I get a little too excited. Every time I find a new pair of shoes, or a dress (for example) at an insanely discounted price I have to tell everyone.
To me there’s nothing more satisfying than scoring an amazingly gorgeous designer dud for less than a fraction of the original price. It’s like a scavenger hunt for adults!
I’m often asked how and where I find my deals and steals. I’m going to let you all in on a few of my discount designer secrets, this has to stay between us though – ok? The best places to find designer discounted items are outlet malls and discounted retailers (i.e. Nordstrom Rack, Saks Off 5th, TJ Maxx, etc).
I know what you may be thinking… They’re crowded! They’re overwhelming! They don’t even have deals! Well ladies, I’m here to tell you that I’ve built my personal wardrobe mainly from merchandise I purchased at outlet malls and discount stores.
Those types of retailers are really great places to purchase some of your big investment pieces, because you’re getting the piece at a lesser cost, but the quality is still there.
It’s true they are crowded and can be overwhelming. Don’t worry – I have a few tips for those obstacles you’re facing.
Get to the mall (or store) as soon as it opens.
Arriving upon opening will allow you to get a decent parking space, and typically they don’t get crowded until around or after lunch time.
I also find arriving earlier in the day prevents a lot of that overwhelming sensation many get when shopping at outlet malls. This is because the merchandise hasn’t been disrupted yet- aka the stores are neat and tidy!
Go to the store(s) with a clear mind and patience.
I find if you go to those types of stores when you’re stressed or in a rush, you may find them even more overwhelming and tend to avoid them after that.
