I mean, after you finish the dishes and figuring out what to wear tomorrow.
Priorities, people.
Ask yourself, has this thought ever consciously occurred to you?
Because it does, subconsciously, every day.
You create a new universe every time you meet someone new. Every time you take a trip somewhere. Every time you start a new job. You’re creating a ripple that births its own infinite potentialities. The creative being inside you, the one that can’t truly be named, but only felt, drives this impulse every day.
Back in January, a friend of mine were talking about starting a fictitious football league in second-tier cities, featuring former NFL players and coaches turning up on hilarious redemption tours. The El Paso Chilies vs. the Omaha Steaks featuring guys who were fired and/or kicked out of other leagues.
Then, after realizing I’d be sued up to my eyeballs for using the names of real players and coaches on a podcast about this league, I had a follow-up thought during another conversation with another friend – what if I could invent my own sport?
As I said that, I was in my kitchen, looking at a pair of tongs.
And I immediately started laughing. Tongs as the foundation of a sport? Sure. Why not? We name sports after pickles these days, after all.
Thus, Tonger was born.
And with it, the Tongerverse.
A place where Cthulhu and Poseidon have a longstanding Tonger rivalry. Where our Board of Directors features a puppy name Colonel Cuddlesworth and a Walrus in a soccer jersey. Where we have a Ten Commandments of Tonger to include, “Thou shalt Tonger-crash expo floors with a boombox while playing Partyman ala the Joker in the art museum.”
Most of all, where the core rule is…there are no rules. Grab a tong and create a new sport, and with it, a new universe. Your own custom Tongerverse. Just because you can. That’s literally it.
But you don’t have to create a new sport to create a new universe.
You’re already doing it every day.
But when you remember that you’re doing it…well, that’s where the real fun begins.
And the magic begins to unfold in ways that were previously unimaginable.
Happy creating, my friends.
And tong on.
