The world is filled with dark hearts that only seek to inflict pain and suffering on people. Selfishness has become the order of the day because people lack compassion in their hearts. When you look at how society has gone into peril, it is something that is alarming. Our families have been shattered and everyone has become egocentric all because they lack compassion in their hearts.
People don’t even feel what they’re doing is wrong because society has turned them to become that way so they believe that’s how the world should be. People are no longer living a life filled with happiness but what we call quiet suffering and it is all because compassion is lacking in society.
You can step in and be a change by being selfless. Selflessness doesn’t mean you abandon your needs and wants but rather you show concern for other people’s needs not because of anything but because you’ve compassion in your heart.
Do you know that showing a little concern for others can make a big difference?
Take for instance you’re in a position of leadership which means many people are under your care. You have a huge responsibility of taking care of them. You are given power and resources to take care of these people. You already know what the people need for their well-being and the resources are there for you to use. Some people who are in your position will pocket these resources and do nothing to their people. The moment you use these resources to do something that would add progress to their lives you’re making a difference and that’s an act of compassion. You’ve carried away a burden in their hearts which is full of bitterness and put joy in there.
Compassion entails showing kindness even to people who can’t do anything for you, just to relieve them of their suffering. There are many people out there who need help and you’re in a good position to render that help which would bring happiness to their lives. It could be through your generosity, mentorship, recommendation, etc. They could be in the moment of giving up but your kindness lifted them up. That shows you aren’t only human but also humane in heart and deed.
Compassion is something that’s shown to build relationships. The moment you show kindness to someone, you become attractive to the person because everyone wants to be identified as a kind person. When you look at wars that have been fought you would realize that it has turned people into bitter rivals. When the stronger opponent defeats the weaker opponent and is about to finish him he would rather show mercy. The mercy is for him to build a relationship with his opponent. They automatically become friends and no longer enemies. It is also a risk because you’re not sure whether the person will embrace you and build a relationship. But anything worth achieving takes a risk.
Compassion is shown to bring families together to make a good and healthy society. You show compassion in your family to lift each other up. Remember that kindness is shown to build relationships so it helps in building and bringing families together. You’ll see families in which others are successful while others are struggling and in pain. Those struggles aren’t their fault, it is because they haven’t been shown compassion that would lift them up. They might even decide family for good because they find no meaning in staying. But when they’re shown compassion, they’ll stay and everyone will be happy. You can demonstrate it by being kind to your siblings, parents, and other relatives. That’s what compassion is all about.
Tell me your thoughts on how you think society would be when compassion is in abundance.
It is useless to complain about how awful human beings are if everything is limited to words. If we really think so, let’s start with ourselves. Cultivating compassion not only elevates us but helps make the world a better place.
I totally agree with you. It’s not about saying but doing that matters. That’s how the world gets better by taking action not mere saying. Thank you so much for the comment.
