Do you ever feel like you are running in circles? Or treading water as it relates to what you are trying to accomplish? Perhaps you feel like you have made the necessary sacrifices, paid the necessary dues without success. You may have simply thrown your hands up in frustration or just given up. You see no way so you create no way in order to find a way. Each day runs into the next with no sense of joy, excitement, passion, or promise. If any of these descriptions describe what you are going thru, perhaps you are going thru a rut. Yes, a perilous stage full of diminishing levels of productivity.
Release
Unfulfilled
Tendencies
When you get to this point, you have two options. Continue down a path of random pursuits without any sense of accomplishment. Or, look for ways to jumpstart the point where you find yourself and begin the pathway towards fulfillment and purpose. When we find ourselves in a rut, we find ourselves dealing with some of the following.
Disappointment
We have not left our comfort zone
Dread
Boredom
No Direction
Lack of Clarity
…………. Name yours
The challenge is to identify ways to offset how we are feeling and take definitive steps towards overcoming. This supercharged effect allows your creativity to be released thus creating new energy and synergy towards new and successful results. Here are a few solutions to move you from your rut towards new energy, enthusiasm, and enjoyment.
Change your routine
When we do the same thing at the same time, in the same way, eventually there will be a sense of boredom. It is like eating Vanilla Ice Cream all the time when there are many different flavors to consider. There is nothing wrong with Vanilla by the way. The point is to add some variety to your routine. Change up your morning routine, direction to work, or a new activity after work. By changing things up, you recapture the joy of doing something new. You open up the possibilities of joy, fulfillment, or simply a new variation to the same thing day in and day out.
Set new Goals
Perhaps you have achieved some really dynamic goals and seem to be operating in cruise control. It may be time to elevate your set of aspirations and pursuits. The very possibility that you can do more, have more, and experience more will create a new sense of purpose and passion.
Take a Different Approach
Look at things from a totally different perspective. You may have only considered one approach the whole time and the results continued to end up the same way. Consider alternative ways to jump start your approach. You may have always done x though y might be the better plan. It begins with an understanding that different results require a different perspective on how to handle. Considering other options broadens your reach towards a renewed effort. The key is to identify a direction that may not have been considered to this point. The reality is that the same old ways have contributed towards the current rut you find yourself dealing with presently.
Take up a new hobby
All of us need balance and variety. An opportunity to take our minds off of the daily grind. A new hobby may just be the way to refocus and recreate your sense of well-being, for example, learn to paint, dance, swim, skydive to jump start your morale and desire to recharge.
Seek a Coach
The decision to work with someone to clear your mind, thoughts, and create a circle of solutions may very well be a missing link. Having the opportunity to bounce things off someone who is able to provide the necessary feedback and sometimes push back will strengthen your ability to work thru this rut. They can channel new ideas, ways to consider and provide different lenses to decide upon new options. Further, they provide much-needed accountability which is where the rubber meets the road. You may felt the helpless and hopeless feeling of stagnation. A coach will motivate and elevate your mental strength to re-establish a new direction in which to proceed.
All of us have felt stuck at some point. The key is to take a step back and figure out specific steps to reboot our desires and motivation. It is easy to feel like you are missing out when you are moving aimlessly. Open up your imagination and consider ways to redo your approach and you will learn new things about yourself along the way.
