Have We Learned Anything?

I have often wondered why when things seem to look good and the minds to be all applaud the new economy that is sneaking around the bend. Then I ask myself is the new economy really as good as some claim. We are faced with a president that may change everything. Then again maybe nothing will change.  I have to judge the economy based on the travel industry since that is where I preside. I read in one article that it is better than last year, and then another study comes out that contradicts it. Who are you to believe since everyone has their own book on what the economy should be doing, just like the weather man, who by the way is very seldom right. I sound like the proverbial back seat kid “Are we there yet” I am hearing now that maybe 2014 will put us back in the black, provided that the country does not go bankrupt first.

Getting back to the real world at hand I have to ask what conditions brought us to this crisis why are we here? Did we not create this oversize dragon, and now we can’t control it. The worst part is that this is not the first time we have released this dragon. Why do we keep doing it? It’s so easy to forget what happens when we overindulge in our endeavors.

Now instead of finding problems for our self – let’s see if we can find solutions to solve the problems that we created. Of course it will be an expensive undertaking, we shudder when it comes to using our own money to cure our own evils. It is easier to borrow from others and let them pay, and if it does not work, file chapter 11 works every time, and finally if it get really bad have the government bail you out. You suppose if I lost several thousand dollars on a bad investment the government would refund me the money? Guess again kimo sabe the Tonto has left the building.

The irony in all of this is that we the people are very complacent and will keep right on creating dragons until the only things left are the dragons. Then you will hear the sound of the trees finally dropping in the forest. “What happened”? Too late the only sound left is that of the wind saying good-bye. Sounds a bit overly dramatic don’t you think? Do you suppose that the Roman Empire felt the same way when it felt the wind blow by and all that was left was the dust settling? Was not the destruction of most civilizations brought down by mankind in one way or another? Here we are today with the same winds beginning to blow, are we also going to go the way of the previous empires because we are blinded by the greed and avarice of what will it do for me. JFK was right “Don’t ask what your country can do for you” “Ask what you can do for it” So if we are not the problem, then at least let us be the solution.
