Do you ever feel like you could do more? Have there been times when you felt creed, race, or culture had influenced your life and work experience? Do you find yourself wondering what your most significant limitations in life are? Are you even aware of what kind of fear you are afraid of? Suppose you are constantly making excuses, procrastinating, and not feeling at peace with yourself and others. In that case, you are most likely reading my weekly newsletter because you want to grow into your fullest potential in all critical areas of life.
No matter what major challenge you are currently facing, an underlying fear stops you from taking that step.
Let’s start by acknowledging the following…
Your fear plays a role in fulfilling your potential.
Fear is one of the primary emotions that we experience, and while the primary role of fear is to protect you, fear very often becomes a significant obstacle between you and your goals. To a large extent, success relies on knowing how to leverage fear.
Fear comes in many different forms. There are a variety of things that we are afraid of. Some may be afraid of heights or spiders; others may be afraid of failure or embarrassment. Fear comes in different shapes and sizes, but no matter what form it takes, it’s essential to understand how this emotion can work for you instead of against you.
What are some of the most common fears?
We all have fears. They are natural and part of what makes us human. But the fear of not being good enough, worthy enough, smart enough or any other reason we use to put off going after what we want can keep us from living a fulfilling and prosperous life.
The key is to recognise the fear, acknowledge it but don’t give into it. Fear is a bully that demands your attention and will taunt you with your worst insecurities if you let it. Don’t give in! You can do anything you set your mind to!
Is fear stopping you from experiencing life fully?
Suppose you are not showing up in the world as your authentic self daily. In that case, you are most likely wearing one of the masks created by your inauthentic being who has experienced a lifetime of threats, pains, disappointments, and rejections. In my book The Unfakeable Code®, I share how various personas we adopt as we go through life can build protective mechanisms that imprison us in the prison of our creations. Reading the book, you’ll learn why those of you who are afraid to take off the mask, face your worst fears, and take risks are the ones who never achieve, never fulfil their dreams and never experience life fully. You may have beautiful intentions for better health, relationship, career, business, finances, social life, and a more kind and loving world.
However, fear can stop many of you from experiencing life fully. Fear’s insidious nature makes it hard to detect, but it is often the most significant factor holding you back from experiencing your fullest potential.
Why Fear Stops You?
Fear stops you because you think something has gone wrong when you feel it. You forget the very role of your amygdala, to fight, flight, freeze, or, as I mention in all of my books, create the freedom you always want.
Fear is a normal human emotion.
As you will see below, the list of how fear impacts your life is a long one. There are many benefits if you can avoid the pitfalls of being fearful and live more in the present.
You may feel that you have little or no control over your destiny, you may not value yourself enough to believe that you deserve to be happy and prosperous, or that it is too risky to follow your heart in case everything goes wrong. In short, if we were not worried about how things might turn out, we would have a lot less to worry about!
What are some of the drawbacks of fear?
First of all, fear stops you from authentically showing up. In other words, it keeps you from living your fullest and most colourful life. A life that is rich in emotion and rich in love.
Whether the client is an individual seeking to overcome personal challenges or a business seeking to improve productivity, performance, and profits, the first step is to assist them in identifying the specific fears related to whatever they wish to work on. Why? Because, no matter what they learn, no matter what instruction they are given, if those fears are not brought to light, it will stop them from creating the results they truly want. For every client I have helped, specific worries related to their life-long experiences have consciously and unconsciously influenced them to remain stuck.
Fear is also something that gets in the way of your happiness and can even prevent you from being able to live a happy life at all. Fear stops us from doing what we want to do or being who we want to be.
Fear has so many different meanings for each one of us, but no matter how you look at it, anxiety can be detrimental to our health and well-being as individuals and societies.
Suppose your goal is to live a happy and fulfilling life full of meaning and purpose. In that case, I trust this article, as part of the Unfakeably Influencing the World newsletter, will help you understand why it’s essential to overcome your fears to achieve these goals.
Understanding the role of fear in your surrounding environment
Fear gives us a false sense of security. It limits your choices, doesn’t let you breathe, and generates anxiety and stress.
It can numb you, leaving you running in circles without direction. It creates low self-confidence, making it difficult to accomplish anything. And it keeps you from experiencing the joys of life because all you see is the negative side of everything.
But fear has an upside: it protects us from predators and makes us more potent after we’ve faced it. Your subconscious mind thinks that if it holds back on its full potential, then nothing terrible will happen. That’s where fear enters the picture – as a friend who wants to protect you from harm and keep things status quo – even though this is not always true or helpful.
What can you do to overcome fear?
Those who resist facing the fears that make them uncomfortable are often those who don’t know they exist. It’s worth clarifying what aspects of your life may be causing you to fear taking your goals and dreams seriously, so you can improve your understanding of the situation and take steps towards a solution. Perhaps you aren’t afraid to invest more time in studying and getting better at a new skill, but what about investing more time in developing yourself as a lover, leader, business owner, or celebrity person? Fear is nothing more than an issue of perspective.
You’ll find it helpful if you clarify what types of activities cause you such negative feelings; keeping these on hand will be beneficial when seeking out professional help or counselling, as this list is meant to be used as a starting point for further research into areas where some form of growth may occur.
What are the benefits of fear in unfakeably influencing the world?
“You’re not alone,” I told one of my clients. “You don’t have to be afraid of what you can do, just the people who tell you that you’re not capable of achieving anything great. They’ll fail and tell you it’s your fault they failed… but they’re wrong.”
“Yeah,” he responded as he put his hand on my shoulder. “It’s a hard road, it’s tough to remain focused in these seven hours a day breakthrough coaching with you, Tony, but I now see how it leads to freedom and, as you say in The Unfakeable Code®, Book, live freely on your terms.”
I smiled thinking about this; this was beautiful client feedback. He understood the value of fearlessness, even though he had experienced failure in the past.
