[su_dropcap style=”flat”]W[/su_dropcap]E RECENTLY HAD our Canadian election, and although I don’t follow politics closely, I can see some clear messages for success in business, from our new Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.

As we usually see in a political campaign, most politicians beat down other parties and candidates. It is a sickening display of bullying, accusations, attacking, lack of integrity…all the reasons I don’t listen to politicians.

I have observed a very refreshing change with our new Prime Minister! Qualities I have never seen in politicians….qualities that are common with successful business owners.

I particularly love what I see in everyone that is close to Justin Trudeau….starting with his Mom….

I love Margaret’s words…they didn’t attack, they didn’t bully in the liberal campaign. Proof that being positive, and taking the higher road, and being of service, generous and full of gratitude pays off!

Didn’t attack, were not mean, and didn’t bully – Justin was the only one of the major 3 candidates that didn’t attack the other parties. He was not mean and didn’t bully. Qualities he and his wife teach their children….and our children learn from parents walking the walk. He stayed positive, and focused on what he is offering, rather than attempting to discredit the other parties. In his acceptance speech he said “We beat fear with hope. We beat cynicism with hard work. We beat negative, divisive politics with a positive vision that brings Canadians together,” Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau said in his victory speech. Successful business owners understand you do not need to discredit other businesses….stand on the value you provide.

Kindness – I have observed so many wonderful expressions of his kindness over the last week. From going and shaking hands and meeting people at a subway station the morning after the election, to carrying a man in a wheelchair down an escalator when it stopped working – he is a man being of service to others. The easiest way to stand out in business, is being willing to go the extra mile and do what others are not.

Honest, Open, Transparent, & Authentic – His honesty shines through in all his interviews. He is someone you trust from the moment you meet him. He talks openly about political issues and does not attempt to dance around questions. He doesn’t attempt to hide things and is very candid in his interviews. You quickly gain a sense of his authenticity. These are all qualities that build trust.

Personable – Such a personable personality, he treats people with respect and interest.

Confident – He is confident but not cocky.

Approachable – He is extremely approachable and exudes this openness when he meets new people. Business owners must be approachable to build trust with their clients.

Good listener – You easily feel he is listening, and his wife mentions this is one of his strongest qualities. Listening to your client needs allows you to provide superior service. There are many clues in what our clients tell us.

Grateful – Gratitude is a powerful state of being, and a sign of goodness in a person. Justin’s gratitude is evident in everything he does. Being grateful for your clients business makes them feel appreciated.

Listen to hearts of supporters – This is obviously necessary in business, and politics is no different. Many politicians don’t understand this. Truly listening to what your customers want allows you to provide what they are asking for.

Took on campaign with passion & made his vision work – There were naysayers, including other parties, that attempted to discredit Justin because of his age (42), stating he was too young to take on this role. He ignored the naysayers and followed his passion and vision through. Something all successful entrepreneurs learn … to push through the naysayers and follow your vision.

Surround yourself with great people – In an interview with Justin’s wife, she mentioned he has surrounded himself with really great people. This is a key distinction all successful business owner’s understand.

While so many are quick to discredit millennials, Justin took a strong stand as a leader who listens to the needs of Canadians, which obviously appealed to millennials, who are looking to build their futures with new ideas and someone who will listen and act. Understanding your client base and listening to their needs, is important to provide what they are looking for.

These are the building blocks that successful entrepreneurs build their businesses on.

As I was writing this article, I came across this video showing how different Justin Trudeau is!

You can see he is humble, kind, sincere and appreciative….he isn’t standing on a podium making a speech to the people…he is out shaking hands and thanking them personally. I love his style, and his willingness to do things “differently” and can only say for the first time in my life, I actually want to meet this Prime Minister. Being willing to do things differently is another quality of visionary entrepreneurs.

I also came across this video of our new First Lady – Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau. Such an interesting interview to get to know the type of person she is and the values her and Justin live their lives by. A very refreshing attitude for a political family, and a sign of our changing times.

I now have a renewed interest in really following our Canadian politics, with these principles and values at the core. What a REFRESHING change in the Canadian political world. Looking forward to seeing what our new Prime Minister can accomplish.
