My boss Leonard is an Empty Suit of the highest order (herein, Empty Suit will be referred to simply as ES – pronounced “ass,” plural “ass-iz”). He is most recognizable by his case of split personality. I often do not know who I am talking to. Perhaps he has a twin.

Hi Alan
I think most of them fall in to the latter…just don’t care about walking the talk. It’s easy to be outspoken about values, but those that disregard have no credibility as you mentioned. These individuals may have short term successes, but will not be able to maintain.
Debbie, You are correct about an “es,” as far as you took it. An es is a person who has little or no authenticity. Additionally, it is a person who is either incapable, refuses or just doesn’t care to “walk the talk.” In my experience, es’ s are outspoken about values; however their disregard for them destroys their own credibility. It pretty easy to recognize them because they are charter members of “our culture of excuses.”
Empty suit is a new term to me…after reading this article, it indicates similarity to someone in a management position that has not continued to learn and grow and is resting on their laurels of yesterday, running on ego and attempting to impress and dominate others. This is one of the biggest differences in those that manage and those that actually lead.
