School is boring, and I’ve told this to my mom countless times, but she always says I have to go, no matter how many reasons I give. Every time I have to go to school, my mind and body scream, “NOOOO!” I don’t want to waste time doing something I could learn in a much more exciting and efficient way.
When I’m in school, it often feels like I’m stuck in a loop of stale lectures that make my mind drift into my own imagination, where I’m actually having fun. Just yesterday, I had another one of those long, boring classes. The teacher kept repeating the same points over and over. As the lecture began, I slumped over my desk, staring blankly as she talked about something I’d already heard a million times. My mind barely paid attention; I was thinking about being at home on my computer, teaming up with my friends in our favorite game, coming up with new strategies, and laughing together. Or maybe I’d be scrolling through YouTube Shorts, discovering random, mind-blowing facts about space or ancient myths, or just laughing at funny memes. I counted down the minutes until I could finally leave. Every second felt like an hour, and I could feel the frustration bubbling up inside me. Why am I stuck here, sitting still, just listening?
These boring lectures make me so restless that I start tapping my fingers on the desk, wishing I could jump up and do something real. But then the teacher notices and tells me to stop.
I feel like anything would be better than sitting here, staring at the clock, wasting time I could use actually to learn something meaningful or do something I care about. All I want is to break free and learn my way.
I know that many other kids feel the same way. Here are some reasons why the school system is boring:
- Long Lectures Without Practical Experience
Teachers often spend a lot of time explaining theoretical concepts. For example, a month ago, we were learning about sound. One experiment—hitting a tuning fork and placing it in water to make small ripples—helped us understand sound waves much better than a lecture. Learning becomes fun when we see things happening with our own eyes. So, I think we learn better through experience.
- Learning Information, But Not Learning How to Use It
In school, teachers focus on what we need to know, but they rarely explain how to use it in real life. For instance, we learn shapes in geometry and try to find out circumference and angles, but we don’t learn much about how we might use these skills in our day-to-day lives—like when budgeting money, building things, or even following recipes.
- Spending a Lot of Time on Information You Can Easily Find Online
In school, there’s too much emphasis on memorizing facts instead of understanding concepts. These days, we can find nearly everything online or through AI tools. If we want to learn about space, we can watch videos, read articles, and even see animations that explain things quickly. Sometimes, schools spend hours teaching things that we could easily look up in just a few minutes.
What’s more important now is knowing how to check if this information is correct. Schools should teach us critical thinking so we can question the validity and credibility of the information we find online.
I know there are many kids like me who feel bored during class, and that’s why I wanted to share this article. So, next time you feel bored in class, remember that it’s okay to want learning to be more interesting!
Zoraib: Great insights and observations, I recognized a lot of what you mentioned from my long, long ago school days. You write (and think) very well! Keep going, and you’ll make a difference!
Great article. I use to daydream at school myself! Sone things are boring but it’s dif for everyone because what bores me may not bore others. But I like hands on learning myself. And self discovery.
