A while back, I was on my morning walk when I saw a small dark form lying on the asphalt road. I didn’t know if it was debris or something else. Dread filled me as I inched closer to the still object. It was a bird, a finch I believe, lying on its side. At first, I thought it was dead, but as I ever so gently touched its feathers it moved. Its claws looked crushed and when I placed the bird on the ground and grass by the curb, it didn’t seem like it could move or even fly.
I had to make a decision. I knew the first action was correct, which was to pick the bird up and remove it from the street so a car couldn’t slam into the bird and cause further damage. Yet now what was I to do? If I left it on the ground it could be prey to violence and pain or death by other birds and animals or overzealous kids. If I took it away, I would be removing it perhaps from the familiar and from its ‘family.’
I decided to take it with me and cradled it in my palms gently stroking its feathers and speaking soothingly all the while as I walked back to my home. The bird seemed to be listening and hopefully, I was calming it. It didn’t seem to want to move. I also began doing energy work on it. Being an Energy Master Teacher is part of my skill set. I could feel the warmth from my palms flowing to the small feathery body as I lay my hands on its feathery form.
I knew I was going to give it water and bird food when I reached my house and that I was going to research refuge places that took injured birds/animals and helped them heal and return to their natural habitats. Or could I help this bird to recover by myself without causing further damage? I spoke to the bird, softly outlining my plan and saying I didn’t know what the outcome would be, however, I would try.
Whatever its destiny: life or death, I was going to make it as gentle, comfortable, and caring as I could.
On the way home, my neighbor Michael was sitting on his porch with his dog Chip. He saw me with my hands cupped against my chest carrying this small form and I asked him for help. Maybe he knew a local shelter or refuge where I could take the bird. Michael put his dog inside the house and began to walk down the steps toward us. And then something happened. The bird fluttered in my palms a few times and flew away. We both saw it fly so I didn’t imagine it.
Michael said, “Did you just heal that bird?” I answered, ‘I don’t know’ and we spoke of miracles. All I did know was that I was relieved that the bird could fly which was a sign that the bird was okay! Was it a miracle, did the energy work to heal the bird or was it just stunned from some horrific or damaging encounter before I arrived? I truly don’t know. Yet over the last few months and more so the last few weeks I’ve been having the most beautiful spiritual, maybe even mystical experiences. All I do know is that in some beautiful way, it was a blessing. You can decide for yourself what to make of it. Whatever it is; it was awesome!!
caring with empathy are magical in their effect. This is what you showed the wounded world and helped it fly again.
