Another way to boost your confidence is to practice saying encouraging statements to yourself. These will help build up your self-esteem and improve the way you view yourself.
Here are a few statements to get you inspired:
- My self-confidence is on the rise.
- I’m worthy of all good things.
- I can’t control what happens, but I can control my reaction to them.
- My ideas are great.
- I’m blessed and appreciative of everyone and everything in my life.
3. Train Yourself to See the Positive
We naturally tend to see the negative. We complain and blame others. You can train your thoughts to be more positive in a healthy, productive way. As a result, you become less anxious and more resilient.
Instead of focusing on them, think more objectively, especially when it comes to your weaknesses or flaws. We all have them. Some are just better at acknowledging and improving them than others.
Write down a list of five things that bother you about yourself. Then, set some realistic goals to change them and reward yourself each time you reach one of your set goals.
Make sure you start small and work at your own pace. The point is to feel good about yourself, not overwhelm or burden yourself.
4. Practice Self-Care
Relaxation techniques are becoming popular because people are realizing the importance of self-care and setting boundaries. These techniques, along with setting boundaries, aim at reducing stress levels and improving your overall health. They also teach you the value of savoring the present.
When you focus on your today, you stop worrying about what happened in the past or what might happen in the future.
This perspective reminds me of the Scripture at Matthew 6:34, ““Never be anxious about the next day, for the next day will have its own anxieties. Each day has enough of its own troubles.” If you can train or discipline your mind to focus on the present, you’ll find it easier to avoid worrying or being overly concerned about what others say or do.
Take a few deep breaths and focus on things present and physically around you: your coffee mug; appreciate creation, like listening to the tweets or songs of the birds, if you’re in the countryside. You may surprise yourself how many birds are present in the city when you really start observing and focusing. Anything that can steer your thoughts to the present moment will do the trick!
Love gardening? Go for a walk around your garden. If you have just three or four potted plants, really look at them and appreciate their growth. Flowers blooming? Focus on the formation of each bloom and take delight in their color.
One of my personal relaxation techniques is to sing. Not just hum. If I know the words, I can sing from the heart. If I don’t, I play the recording and sing along. Singing blocks out any negative thought and puts me in a powerful, yet playful mindset so I focus on positive, rather than negatives things.
While this is a business article, it reflects a lot of who I am as a person and so I share that my best way to avoid getting over agitated or slowing down my heart rate, is prayer. Then I’m not trying to deal with challenges on my own. With that mindset, it’s much easier not to worry about what other people think.
