Why has laziness afflicted our people so?
Are we that afraid of change we prohibit the need for growth?
Shall we continue to overlook the labels placed?
Have we not endured enough brutality, enough disgrace?
Some vouch to come together, while others are content with being divided
With a misunderstanding that unity can coexist with a love that is one-sided
We must refrain from actions leading up to captivity
Tagged as another “monkey” in the jungle because our behavior is savagely
Maybe I’m too candid; the last thing I want to be is condescending
But I’m tired of the struggle Y’all; I’m tired of pretending
It doesn’t infuriate me when we know not where we come from
We must get past the woe is me mentality with a productive fight we’ll overcome
Let us prove the bloodshed was not shed in vain
Every whip that struck their backs, every lynching, and rape of shame
Shout from the mountaintop with a stir of echoes let our voices be heard
Now is the time to take action in our deeds not only in words
