Have you ever noticed that, no matter how good a situation may be, there’s always “somethin’?”
Case-in-point, roosters.
We finally made it to Costa Rica and it’s wonderful. We did it! We made our dream come true! We’re staying in a little Airbnb in a small town where it seems every family owns a rooster and a dog. The dogs hang out together in the wee hours of the night, barking at every shadow and celebrating their freedom, and the roosters here cannot tell time, so at 3 am they start crowing. I am amazed at how an entire population has learned how to sleep through all of this noise and I’m determined to do the same, but thus far, no luck.
Even in paradise, there’s “somethin’.”
But that’s the way of the world, isn’t it? There is no perfect. Perfect is fantasy. It’s how we deal with and show up in the face of life that matters. In the raw, unedited, real-version, not our pretend, wish-it-could-be-different version. Because you can change locations, you can change jobs, you can change who you hang out with, but no matter the circumstance, you still accompany you.
How you choose to react to the situations at hand will be the sole determining factor in your experience of the situation.
Costa Rica routinely finds itself at the top of the world “Happiness Index,” roosters and all.
Where in your life could you benefit from shifting your perspective? There are people all over the world who live in dire circumstances but have found a way to have peace and joy and contentment in their lives. How might the way you’re interacting with your situation be costing you?
For as I sit here typing, with the rooster-cacophony-soundtrack in the background, I realize that I’ve finished with my writing just in time to go for a walk at sunrise. What a glorious thing! Had the roosters not awakened me, that wouldn’t be possible.
It’s all perspective.
What perspective will serve you in leading the life you want to lead? Choose powerfully.
