Choose To Cross The Street

Do you know someone who is beyond the beginning of his career path and who needs to make a significant life change? Or could it be a friend, who is a single mom or dad, who needs to transition from the resident taxi cab driver and chef extraordinaire into the entrepreneurial horizons of mainstream business ventures? Similarly, are you aware of a successful professional who is miserable in her beautifully packaged professional persona because she is very far removed from her true life purpose and passion?

Could it even be that the special someone you know in this crossroads of life scenario is the one who is reading this message right now?

Why? Because you are granted the power of choice. Only you can uniquely do your purpose in this life. This is because no one is exactly gifted with your talents, abilities, experiences, and passions. Likewise, no one can make the ultimate decisions required for you to powerfully cross the street in the middle of life – except you.

The Hindrances

“Yes, you do have the power of choice”, says the Wisdom of Life. But Self Talk often replies, “Ah, the multi-faceted challenges of change that create a multitude of obstacles for most humans beyond the age of two!” While many factors are different for the two year old as compared to the thirty-two year old, one similarity remains: hesitation.

It’s that delay due to uncertainty, insecurity, lack of resources, or fear. Hesitations can be simple or complex; brief or lengthy; and protective or immobilizing. However, one truth remains in dealing with hesitation: the ones who work through the impacts and move beyond the hindrances of hesitation become the ones who ring the bell of fulfillment.

How? Well, moving beyond the hindrances of hesitation is a process. It begins with sorting the hindrances, dealing with the impacts, and moving forward each day by doing one thing different – just one. To be sure, each of these pieces and parts should operate within your Master Plan.

“Ah, yes,” says Self Talk, “back to the nasty little subject of planning!” For sure, there is rest in the plan – always! There is not only rest in the plan, but having a plan follows a great principle of life success – and this principle stands undefeated. Remember, a dream without a plan is just a wish! Plus, the plan will give you a checklist to follow each day so you can do things differently in a successful way.

Breaking Down the Pieces and Parts of Hindrances

So, here are a few of the pieces and parts related to hindrances that surely contribute to hesitations:

The Traffic Congestion

The traffic congestion hindrance involves all of the “coming and going” that your visual compass registers. The “coming and going” is representative of the chaos of merging your present world realities with your new world requirements.

Absolutely, it can be overwhelming. Nevertheless, as long as you stand on the curb and curse the congestion, you are wasting breath and time. Jump in the fray and navigate the challenges within the strength of your Master Plan. Remember, you are dealing with traffic congestion hindrances in your present world realties, yet without the appropriate fulfillment.

One truth is for certain: traffic congestion always looks more daunting from the curb-side view.

Aggressive Drivers

The aggressive driver hindrance involves all of the human challenges associated with crossing the street in the middle of your life. There will always be people who are for you and people who are not so much for you. In this truth, it is fairly safe to say that you learned this lesson in kindergarten. Therefore, you are equipped (at least with knowledge) to go forth in spite of human challenges.

Absolutely, it can be maddening. Nevertheless, as long as you focus on the aggressive drivers and quarrel with those who are not so much for you – you are wasting breath and time. Focus on what you can do with what you do have, all within your Master Plan. As important, don’t forget the uniquely you talents, abilities, experiences, and passions. These are strengths that are definitely for you! Remember, you are dealing with aggressive driver hindrances in your present world realties, yet without appropriate fulfillment.

One truth is for certain: aggressive drivers always looks more daunting from the curb-side view.

Potholes and Road Construction Zones

The literal bumps of potholes and the detours of road construction zone hindrances involve those non-human related challenges associated with crossing the street in the middle of your life. There will always be regulations, rules, policies, and requirements that create risk and agitation. These are outside of your direct control, but you are still equipped with the power of choice and the rest within your plan. Carry on!

Absolutely, it can be frightful. Nevertheless, as long as you focus on the unpleasant emotion of danger, threat, or loss you will remain mesmerized by the rough places in life. Alternatively, choose to navigate the bumps and detours one day at a time by doing one thing different than usual each day. After all, by choosing to cross the street in the middle of your life you are already in the middle of doing something real different. Therefore, it’s a good time to just keep behaving more and more differently each day! Remember, you are dealing with the literal bumps of potholes and the detours of road construction zone hindrances in your present world realties, yet without appropriate fulfillment.

One truth is for certain: the bumps of potholes and the detours of road construction always looks more daunting from the curb-side view.

Seek It and You Shall Find It

When? While timing is important anytime you are crossing the street, it is one of the common factors that contributes to the majority of people taking the curb-side view eternally. Yes, there needs to be a Master Plan, Yes, there needs to be right timing. But, yes, there also needs to be a sense of urgency about remaining stuck in the failing familiar.

The failing familiar is that place where you know your quality of life, financial goals, and fulfillment potential are not being properly addressed or satisfied. Yet, you repeatedly choose to remain in the failing familiar for many reasons, but mostly because there is a false sense of comfort and security in the familiar. Be warned: it is the place of lies and the killing field of fulfillment.

What makes the failing familiar place such a lie is the fact that you are falling far short of so much of who and what you are created to be and to do. Remember, Old Man Time has a way of lulling you into a disastrous sleep when you choose to remain in the failing familiar. Mostly, he does this by causing you to lose track of the value of time and of the amount of time that you are wasting in the failing familiar place. Days turn into weeks; weeks turn into months; and months turn into years – yet you sleepily believe it’s only been a short time of contemplating a life change.

Wake Up! Shake Yourself! Seek what you know you can be and do. Seek the plan. Seek the resources. Seek the support. But, most of all seek that place of fulfillment that only you can discover with the power of your choices. Begin seeking it today, and tomorrow, and the next day – until you are running out of that place of the failing familiar!

Remember, you are dealing with the traffic congestion, aggressive drivers, and the literal bumps of potholes and the detours of road construction zone hindrances in your present world realties, yet without appropriate fulfillment. Let this truth become your catalyst for crossing the street in the middle of your life, thus finding that amazing place of life fulfillment.

One truth is for certain: all of the hindrances to crossing the street in the middle of life always look more daunting from the curb-side view.

  1. Geting out of that area where we feel at ease simply because we can keep everything under control and because we handle every problem becomes important if we want to try to change jobs, hobbies or circle of friends …in one word the way of live. To do this we must first deal with the resistance to change, that form of resistance to the new because the unknown is scary, because do not feel ready or are not used, or are afraid of losing something or someone. Then do not refer to a hypothetical better time: the right time to change our lives is today, the best time is always as soon as possible and stay away from excuses and justifications. A key role is played by the self-esteem: by opening up to new it becomes easier to understand what are the real attitudes and also understand what it really means acting with commitment and dedication.

  2. I am so greatful that at 50 yrs. old ,I experienced a divine intervention at a divine appointment right at an intersection of the road. I went through the one way sign and been lead ever since in “purpose” Purposed not to sit at the curb anymore. Purposed to help in human trafficking, fostering children, adopting a few of them and now at 59 yrs. old (after feeling too comfortable) I’m headed towards the Frontage Rd. Next to the freeway and it’s a bit scary but confident and secure in God’s given abilities. Much preparations were made to be driven to this point. I love this article and thank you for sharing Devaney.
