Can You Believe That Summer Is Almost Over?

Vantage Points Header Joel Elveson      WASN’T YESTERDAY June 21st the first official day of Summer? There we were getting ready for beach, bbq, and vacation season now here it is August 21st. In two weeks from Monday it will be Labor Day Weekend which unofficially marks the end of Summer.

In some states the school year is just about to start while others school will be starting soon after. If you are a parent with school age children are you feeling any angst of what this year will bring? There will be issues that threaten to make this a challenging year.

Does the government have the right to dictate what your kids are allowed to be served for lunch by their school lunch program? Will this be another year of Common Core nightmares? What about prayer being allowed in the classroom or the pledge of allegiance ? There is an initiative to increase funding for private schools to reduce the cost of tuition. Will many parents jump at the opportunity to provide a better education for their children that are offered at private schools?

For the rest of us September reminds us that Fall and Winter are not far behind. Fall and Winter? That’s pretty scary sounding unless you are a fan of those two seasons. Fall in the Northeast part of the country can be pretty comfortable weather wise with some spectacular scenes of the leaves on the leaves changing colors in New England. The full beauty of nature is on display.

I personally am not looking forward to Winter! The last two winters have been too cold and too snowy for my comfort. Having to wear multiple layers of clothing (I hate the bulk) not to mention boots or some kind of heavy snow shoes is a less than exciting proposition for me. No, I don’t care much for trying to build a snowman. My hands get too cold even with gloves on. Besides I can’t make a snow ball let alone a snowman.

You can successfully argue I am getting too ahead of myself as well as getting overly worried way too far in advance about seasons changing and whatever else . Though from September 14th through October 6th comprise the time of some of the most important holidays in the Jewish Calendar. This is a time of reflection, and prayer that culminate with the celebration of Simchat Torah. When I take time to reflect while engaging in prayer somehow the racing clock in my head slows down .

This is also the time of the year when Retailers start to stock their shelves with whatever product fits into the months leading up to holiday season aka cash cow time. By that I mean this is prime time selling season where cash registers are singing loudly. The credit card providers will also soon start having dreams of consumer charging just about every purchase. The more you charge the more they get to charge you in interest.

Every year around Thanksgiving (I know I am getting ahead of myself yet again but I can’t help it) the scenes get uglier and uglier with people frantically pushing, shoving, punching anybody who dare get in their path to that treasured sale item they just have to have. By opening their doors later on in the day on Thanksgiving or hyping their sales the retail community is stroking the fires of greed. When human life takes a back seat to that “drastically reduced” item it is a sad not to mention disgusting reflection of society.

On a personal level as the Summer of 2015 winds down so does in all likelihood my time as a full time recruiter or perhaps the finale of this great chapter in my life is drawing near. When you work in a career that you loved so much that it never seemed like work there has come a time that I feel I have to start writing different chapters in the book of my life. Thoughts of maybe it’s time to move on to something different while I am still able have become dominant in my mind.

Can you believe Summer is almost over? I hope you enjoyed this season and that you will use this time to look ahead to all the good times yet to come. Oh and by the way while the kids are back in school take some precious time (as much as can be allowed) to P-A-R-T-Y! Let the good times roll! Who said I can never be an optimist? Does anybody know if The Stones will be coming back soon?
