As the market picks up and job mobility increases, businesses will see a corresponding drop in employee tenure. And as more millenials enter and advance up the workforce – a generation renowned for job hopping – retention will undoubtedly be a concern for many leaders.
Some argue that it needn’t be; that in a few years we’ll see the end of the full-time employee, instead operating as long-term associates, freelancers or ‘solopreneurs’. Average tenure is currently around 4.4 years (half that for millenials), with some estimating that by 2020, 40 – 50% of all income-producing work will be the result of short-term contracts
