Just be nice. It is something we have been told to do all our lives. It pretty much offers a watered-down definition of emotional intelligence. Yet, those in leadership positions sometimes need a push (or shove) to take time to remember what their mothers taught them and expected. You can be a leader or you can be a jerk. However, you can’t be both – no matter what you think and no matter how hard you try. (As an aside, please note I didn’t say you can be a manager or a jerk. A business card doth not a leader make…)
