Hello again my friends —I don’t mean to sound like a Quaker, but I did like Gary Cooper & Dorothy McGuire in “Friendly Persuasion” with the “thee’s” and “thou’s” – a great movie for film buffs!
Okay “friends”, this Gumshoe would like to submit a “truth” that might seem self-evident to all you thinking folks, but perhaps this thought has not passed through everyone’s synapses.
In our present-day culture of “identity politics” that encompass an attack on gender-specific pronouns; playing of race cards; “me too and me three” charges; NDA’s; being adequately “woke” and not being “evolved” enough along with other “flavors and fads” of the moment – here is my humble observation:
Absolutely and positively NOT ONE PERSON ever gave those factors a second thought when they called me via “911” for help.
They needed the real police ASAP – NOW and not the PC police. None of these folks cared about my sexual orientation or my political leanings. No one ever asked me if I were a tree, what kind of tree would I be? Once you put labels on only certain folks that you want help from, you will undoubtedly learn to your chagrin, how not to get the help that you need during the critical time you need it.
When I found myself “down in the dirt” with a physically violent, drug-crazed suspect or suspects (sometimes they came in two’s) I did not care one iota (rat’s ass) about the race, color, creed, age or sex of who was gonna give me a hand or needed hands.
This “truth” I believe is universal everyone (documented or not) – “911” is definitely blind to PC – Thank God!
I feel better now, I think that I will watch “Friendly Persuasion” tonight with some “friends”.
Till next time folks, remember to love the ones who love you and the ones who don’t.
Thanks for reminding us of the ties and service that bind us. I also like the news stories of people rushing to help others without knowing their politics, age, gender or ethnic back ground.
You are so right Dr Mary. Personal prejudices seem to disappear in times of personal peril.
In times of emergencies people don’t care who responds you would think, however it’s after the dust settles, the report is written and Media gets hold that things become a label.
Indeed Officer Smith.
