People don’t buy what you do, people buy why you do what you do
-Simon Sinek
This is one of my favorite quotes. This post goes out to all job seekers and aspiring individuals all over the world.
Over the last few years, I have witnessed the truth behind the quote – People don’t buy what you do, people buy why you do what you do.
People never hire you or work with you just for your qualifications or titles, but they hire you because you show them why you did what you did.
I show the people I work with why I believe in helping people to be better at what they do. I show them why I coach people to excel, why I hire a candidate, and how I inspire change. My job is always aligned with why I do what I do, my purpose in life. Looking back on the journey I have been on, I realize this.
Purpose —according to Wikipedia is the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. A person’s sense of resolve or determination. Have as one’s intention or objective. It goes on to say why you do something or why something exists. Why does one exist?
Our values form the base foundation for our purpose, the value we bring exercises our purpose.
For our values help us grow, learn, and achieve success. When it is purpose-driven, we add value to those we meet who are part of the journey we are on.
For we do not grow alone we use the immediate surrounding and the people around us to grow and shine. And when we shine we shed light enabling others to see a well-defined path.

During your job search and individual journey in life/work whatever the case, one thing you must remember is to be super proud of all your accomplishments and to be accountable for your failures. There is a great lesson to learn from both!
Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is YOU who will get you where you want to go, no one else.
~Les Brown
Remember it takes 365 days to make a year. You will need to take one step at a time, one thought at a time, one idea at a time, and one action at a time.
Believe in yourself! Say and do the things you actually believe.
“If you say what you believe and do what you believe, you will attract people who believe what you believe and you can form a trust with them” – Simon Sinek
- Turn your job search difficulties & entrepreneurial/individual challenges into subjects of exploration.
- Add elements of your passion to a given opportunity or the situation you’re in.
- Input ideas that exhibit your purpose-driven passion in the job/life you already have.
- Find satisfaction and love in the job assigned or your business by looking at the bigger picture.
- Use them as step-stones to get to where you want. And, ultimately you will get to where you want to go.
- Bring clarity to what you want to accomplish by letting go of the fear.
- Measure what you do and learn from what you’ve implemented. This would keep you better organized.
- Portray your authenticity and draw people forward with your actions and words.
- Most important of all – ” Believe in yourself”.
Purpose differs from man to man and time to time and the situation you’re in. What matters is how well we can utilize our existence at any given moment in life. That defines our Purpose.
Rather than asking yourself what is my purpose in life?
Ask the question: “Why do you do, what you want to do?”, that will define your purpose at any given moment. This will help you in any journey in life.
Sara Jacobovici Owner at Creative Arts Therapies Services says “Our beliefs and values give reason and intention to purpose. We can have purpose, but only through choice do we activate purpose”.
You have the choice to make your life better and to decide which journey gives you fulfillment and satisfaction. Choose wisely and believe in yourself.
Have the courage to make the right choices to get to your purpose-driven job or business or life path.
Victor’s has cautioned on the importance of living responsibly. His emphasis on accountability: “Live as if you were living already for the second time and as if you had acted the first time as wrongly as you are about to act now! – Victor Frankl

A most inspiring article, Fatima. There are many interpretations to ‘self belief’ or being ‘comfortable in one’s skin’ and most important, self confidence does not and should not translate in to arrogance. Self belief can be project to others in a strong and gentle manner, providing inspiration and power of determination and focus. The above quotes in your article are so relevant and I thank you for highlighting them.
We are mutual ”Number 1′ Linkedin connections, so doubtless we will be exchanging further views and comments. .I may be retired from the ‘front line’ but interacting and communicating with like-minded people is ever more important.
