Attitude – The Only Thing You Can Fully Control In Your Life

Many things can happen in one’s life and it is rarely a long, straight, smooth road. Usually, there are many bumps, curves, hills, rocks, even a landslide or two that can be found on life’s journey. The only thing we can completely control is our attitude toward those challenges and then what we do to either to solve them or get around them. Those who espouse a positive outlook on life and are willing to face adversity with the idea that we always have choices so let’s just sit down and find a way to deal with this obstacle are the ones who live a happy, rich, and full life.

It is not always easy to deal with life’s challenges, however, the sooner you do the faster you can get on with the tasks that will move you closer to your life’s goals and dreams. In addition, human beings are not big fans of change as we prefer to stick to what we know and remain in our “comfort zone”. The problem with this strategy is that today, change is the new norm and those who are not willing to embrace it and learn new ways of doing things are going to struggle. Besides, the only way to grow is to learn new things, to step over that line in the sand that defines the comfort zone and go with the flow. You might even discover that new methods are better, more efficient and even fun to use. Again, one needs to be willing to try and even if you make mistakes, those are great opportunities to learn, so do not worry about errors, just figure out what happened, fix the result and try something else…..or get some help from an expert.

Taking charge of your life means facing adversity and becoming accountable in solving the problem. In some cases, it may be blatantly obvious what the best solution would be. In other situations, you may want to just change how you perceive the problem so that it does not bother you so much. Finally, in some cases, it just might be best to leave the relationship, job, or whatever is giving you grief and leave it behind you. In truth, none of these options are very easy to do, however, they are the only choices you have and so if you want to be happy, healthy, and positive, it is best to “bite the bullet” and just do it!

So many people just go through life unhappy and miserable and truly, that is their choice. However, no one likes to be around a grumpy, negative person and in fact, they can change the atmosphere a workplace or even a home if that is how they behave on a regular basis. It is much more pleasant to be around those who are ready, willing, and able to actively problem solve, employ a positive approach to difficulties and can move forward in a competent and meaningful manner.

Stuff is always going to happen in life, stuff that is definitely beyond our control: the weather, the economy, world politics, even accidents caused by others. If we struggle with those issues and let them get us down, then we will always be sad and stressed out. Those who are in that state usually push others away, have lower performance levels at work and can end up with more health issues.

So, if you want to have a more efficient, productive, and creative life full of happiness and good health, it would be a good idea to manage your attitude in a positive, “glass is half-full” manner. If you do that, you will have more fun, be surrounded with other happy and positive people and your life will be richer, more fulfilling, and certainly more successful.

11 CONVERSATIONS

  1. I ran into a guy who saw I was down. I was down because I was exhausted from a new gym routine — so I was both physically and emotional exhausted. I’m a very positive guy most of the time, but just not at that moment. The guy, of course gave me “the talk”, you know, the one that is supposed to lift the spirits. AKA the “rah-rah” speech.

Oh — do I hate giving and hearing those speeches. Positive attitude comes from a more personal and intimate place.

    • Hi Chris, Isn’t it interesting how some people think they are helping when we are looking for help…..especially if they do not know the situation and just start assuming that they have what you need. Have a great weekend & thanks for your comment.

    • Definitely. To raise someone’s spirits you have a conversation. You tell them about your day, they tell you theirs and it builds up from there.

      Connection => Attitude.

    • A much better approach, Chris. The other was an assumption before the conversation….usually gets us into trouble!

  2. “I wanna be the very best
    Like no one ever was”
    – Pokemon Theme Lyrics

Many write off a “positive attitude”. They write it off because when they see people being happy and joyful, those people are really faking it — putting on a song and dance that really doesn’t reflect their true belief or attitude.

When you actually see someone who really has a positive attitude, you can’t help but be drawn to them. You’re like a baby seeing that shiny new toy. You want to help the person, you want to engage with that person.

I’m on the fence if Captain America really has a positive attitude — or if it is more of a can-do-attitude. Based on what Tony Stark says in this video, I feel it’s the latter.

    • Hi Chris,
thanks for sharing the video, it does illustrate a never give up attitude. Positivity is definitely an attractor and most of us would rather be around happy positive people rather than negative unhappy ones. Hope you are having a great summer and able to enjoy your personal activities and your work.

    • The kids today have one positive attitude inspiring song. If you get them into a group of people, and one person starts singing it, everyone will join in.

This has been going on long before that Pokemon Go video game became a thing.

I don’t think our generation has such a song.

  3. Great Article Sandy. I truly agree with you. We own how we engage in life. It is a choice. I would believe my glass is half full, then full , then overflowing. The goodness of life is abundant , more than enough for us all.
Thank your for a bit of nightly inspiration.

    • Hi Larry,
thank you both for reading my article & adding your perspective, it is a good one! I totally agree with you. Personally, I have no patience for negative people or negative attitudes, as life is too short not to enjoy it as much as we can. Glad you are enjoying yours!!
