“Think of yourself as a spy whose mission is to detect how much in tune you really are with your life … Unlike more cerebral methods, intuition offers you the edge of having x-ray vision into all energy matters.”
~ Dr. Judith Orloff
I have a soft spot for metaphors with a message—especially when it comes to listening to our intuition. Let me share a little tale that might strike a chord with you. Picture this: back before the days of Sirius Radio, I’m cruising along in my car, singing with the band, belting out Credence Clearwater’s “Proud Mary” like I’m auditioning for a one-person musical when the static apocalypse interrupts the hook of the song. It was like, “Rollin’, Rollin’, Rollin’ on a … BUZZZZZZZZZ.” A quick left turn under a bridge, through the tunnel, and onto the freeway resolves the problem and voila, the song is back… but, alas, it’s the final guitar strum.
This was a regular occurrence back in the day—radio signals playing hide-and-seek, depending on where you were. The irony is, that the station never stopped broadcasting; it was all about where you parked your ears. And, of course, there was always the option to turn off the radio altogether. This radio drama is a perfect metaphor for how Divine Guidance (AKA Intuition) dances through our lives. The “Intuition Station” is always sending signals, but it’s on us to tune in and catch the broadcast. And much like a cat who ignores us and refuses to come when called, we humans can choose to ignore these signals, courtesy of our unique gift—free will.
Speaking of animals of every species; these creatures are the original intuition ninjas. However, in the animal kingdom, it’s instinct that guides them—which is just another broadcast system for Divine Guidance. No egos, no overthinking—they just go with the flow, literally. We humans have our own version of this—a little thing called intuition. It’s like having a personal life coach on retainer, available 24/7, but the catch is whether we decide to listen. Mindfulness prompts us to ponder just how in tune we are with this life symphony. Ernest Holmes, in his book “This Thing Called You,” assures us that “Divine Guidance is yours for the asking.” But let’s face it, it’s like asking your cat to fetch—only effective if you’re open to the possibility.
THE TAKEAWAY: Our intuition is always doing its thing; we just need to make sure we’re tuned in. How do we know when we’ve caught the signal? By embracing our inner Zen and bypassing our over-caffeinated brains. Guidance often arrives as a gut feeling—a sort of “I know when I know” vibe. It’s also about emotional awareness. It might sneak in through dreams, a book passage, or a chat with a friend. Infinite Intelligence is always trying to get our attention through one channel or another.
When we’re dialed in, guidance finds us, like a radio signal honing in on a well-placed antenna. The broadcast is always on, through storms and sunshine.
Our job? Tune in and listen, not with just our ears but our hearts—you might just catch the guidance you’ve been seeking.
