What do I mean?
Well, we all know how important first impressions are, right? In our incredibly busy world, we all too often make a snap judgment about someone or something.
We may be right; of course, we may be wrong.
But we don’t always get a second chance, especially when life keeps throwing more and more “stuff” at us!
In terms of social media, there are likely MILLIONS of folks worldwide looking at untold billions of articles on all sorts of sites. But as one person among those millions, in our busy days, do we really have time to read content that looks tough before we even know what the topic is?
Before we even know whether the information could help us in some way?
So, in terms of creating content on social media – take a look at the picture below.
Without knowing anything about the writer or the topic they wrote about – which version of the info would you be more willing to read?
Why?
Right, the one with white space between the writer’s thoughts. Because it looks easy enough to read.
✔️The white space is blank.
✔️The white space gives us time to breathe.
✔️The white space gives us time to reflect on what we just read before we jump to the next idea.
My suggestion; Always break your paragraphs into just a few lines; don’t ask any reader to wade through your excellent info while trying not to get lost in the middle of 20 or 30 lines of type.
A double hit on the “Enter” key will ensure you’ll get far more readers who will be reading, commenting, and perhaps even reposting to their network.
Now you might remember being told in school – way back when – that you must have a new thought to start a new paragraph.
No. Not now, or at least NOT on social media, where we’re competing for attention. It’s a new world with some different ways of doing things. And if we can gather new readers/connections by simply making our ideas easy to take in … why not do it?
As always, I value your thoughts.
What might you add to this idea? What have you experienced using huge text blocks or shorter ones?
