Sorting through all the feelings here this morning as my youngest heads off to preschool for the first time. Mama bear is not loving the quiet in the house right now and missing the tiny footsteps running up and down the halls, the random hugs and kisses and the sound of toys being played with or tossed about. I’m sure it will just take time to get used to this new stage of life, but as of right now, I do not like it.

This is such a beautifully written piece with which so many mothers, and grandmothers, can identify. Your emotionally packed words allow me to feel your longing for your child’s return. It is definitely a big coming-of-age moment in both of your lives.
Thank you Kathleen for your kind comment. It is this bittersweet struggle for me to want my children to grow into strong, independent, kind people and also want them to be home with me snuggling in the couch.
The free time you have is also a gift from God; use it to prepare your Teddy Bear’s favourite lunch and look out the window for the bundle of joy making his way to your door!
The excitement and joy of feeding him after this little separation will bring multifold joy!
Thank you for your comment! It’s true that our time apart now will be sad for me but having some time to myself will be very much appreciated. And most likely spent planning the rest of our day together.
There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them.

This is a prelude to the many seasons you will go through as a parent. The key is making the most of the time you have. Be present in the moments.
Perfectly said. Thank you for the comment.
My children are grown and even my grandchildren are teens and adults. Experience is a good teacher.

And therein lies the most joy of parenting, right!
