The priest who spoke at the graduation of my younger son, Quinn, from Northwest Catholic High School in West Hartford, Connecticut, began his address by saying, “We are blessed with challenges.” That was 2004. I thought he was a lunatic. This is 2020, the year of COVID-19. Now I know he was right.
We are blessed with the challenges of reorientation, of restoring our resourcefulness, of rediscovering our shared humanity.
All of those challenges are blessings. In that spirit, then, I offer this short video.
Thank you for this sentiment in such uncertain times. We are in this together. We’ll rally. We have to. It’s been my M.O. for quite some time now anyway, and I’m not ready to give up.
Thank you, JoAnna. You know as well as anyone I’m no cockeyed optimist. But I do believe these circumstances constitute enormous opportunity. What we make of that opportunity is entirely up to us.
