Agility in a New World of Business and Personal Challenges

Who’s Leading the Way?

Business agility is the ability of an organization to adapt quickly to market changes – internally and externally. Respond rapidly and flexibly to customer demands. Adapt and lead change in a productive and cost-effective way without compromising quality.

I like to look for the best in things, or at least to take what is given and look at it from a greater perspective in relationship to the whole. My co-host on 2SmallBizGuys.com podcast was the pragmatist and yet liked my ‘cosmic wisdom’ additions to our conversations. We tend to be pretty narrow-focused when in the midst of a crisis or challenged when we feel we don’t have answers.

Peer groups offer an easy way to gain access to agility conversations, small business owners gather to discuss challenges and opportunities on a monthly basis.

I met my co-host through membership in a speaker’s organization and started doing the online marketing for his peer advisory boards soon afterward. Our pun-filled banter led to doing the show a few years later.

The shift in the status quo of in-person meetings really created a challenge during the pandemic and fortunately, he had gone virtual the year before, so it was easier to move the established groups to an online environment. Speaking of the pandemic, fallacious narrative or not, we’re having to deal with an unknown future as we learn how to work together better because of the constraints in activity the event has caused.

Attention

Taking all the bias away from who or what Klaus Schwab is, he’s in a position of power and authority to help shape our future. That is unquestionable as the Executive Director of the World Economic Forum. Let’s go a little deeper into the transcendence he offers in his book COVID-19: The Great Reset.

In speaking toward business challenges, he states that companies and corporations need to be agile. Those who cannot or hold to ‘old’ ways of doing business will more than likely fail. Let’s look at the word he uses – AGILE. It’s a buzz term in corporate philosophy that I believe we can apply to our personal lives as well. After all, we’re co-creating daily.

It would seem that AGILE ought to include our current evolving knowledge of how connected our lives and the planet are, business needs to consider the ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Standards on a go-forward basis. They were ratified by 92 countries in 2010 and many don’t even know about them. Like B-Corps, the ISO 26000 is intentional, where all other ISO certifications are quality-driven with documentation of ‘system’ adherence as proof. Imagine the agility of a workforce with common beneficial goals.

Intention

Don’t we need to be more intentional? Aren’t we being asked to look at or for a greater order? Even the recent reveals of Military videos of unidentified aerial phenomena means there is a bigger picture than we might have thought possible. This also, on a deeper level, speaks to the possibility of a greater order as well, one that we haven’t recognized because of our obsession with patterned behavior and desire to get ahead.

On a personal level, then, we also need to be AGILE in all the best ways possible. We deserve to be all that we are, right? Agility means that we are able to navigate the ocean of emotion together and find safe harbor as global villagers who’ve learned how to play together better. Imagine the joy in that and the increase in all the right things for us all. The term ‘regenerative culture‘ is gaining attention now.

Isn’t it obvious that all the discordant patterns and ill-be-gotten agendas are surfacing for acknowledgement (many have been in denial) and transcendence? Whether it’s your own ignorance and misbehavior or our international leaders, corporate, government and military. Life is precious. We’ve got abundance, just not good management of it. Controlling a population isn’t the answer; empowering it is. That AGILITY in the 21st Century.

Interaction

Agility commands our best and demands performance beyond words. Unfortunately, people are usually unappreciated, underpaid, and overworked to meet goals. It’s a drive for production that nearly eliminates any joy in the workplace, it’s all too serious. Leaders and owners forget about their internal customers – their suppliers, vendors and workforce. Change has been seen as too hard and a laborious process with way too much resistance.

I don’t know about you, though I get the sense that self-fulfilling prophecies abound as a result of that style of unconscious leadership and management. We get lost ‘in’ the business and neglect to work ‘on’ it from a human capital standpoint. People are PRICELESS! Both employee and management MUST agree on that fact and act accordingly. We call that interpersonal and emotional intelligence in learning organizations and holistic systems thinking.

For many years as a coach and consultant for business affairs, the truth is revealed of happy people getting more done with less supervision and exceeding expectations given the power to do so. Any critical thinking and deductive logic reveals that fact. It’s repeatable across the gamut of industry, government, military and politics. Of course, happy people don’t tend to go to war, either. Everybody has what they need and the ability to perform to their potential, a goal of a relatively new group called the Global Regeneration CoLab. Our collective potential is harmony among people and planet. Why not give that a try?

Zen says his life has been spiced with personal and professional opportunities that came through his nurturing of faith, love, and trust that dreams do come true. What built that faith, love, and trust began as an orphan told of his adoption just after his 4th birthday. The spice continued with experiences that span the gamut of the paranormal and include off-planet engagements over a lifetime. Can you say outlier? With two Master’s degrees and multiple certifications as well as an interesting professional history (ZenBenefiel.com) his passion turned to transformational life coaching just after the turn of the century, having become a rather astute cognitive scientist with extraordinary insight and intuition, he transformed Be The Dream (founded in 1988) from the intention of bridging best business and spiritual practices to a reality that has served hundreds. A decade and a half of writing was filled with cathartic wonders. His gifts are useful for Team Partnering as well, facilitating people, places, and things to build mega-structures with pre-construction teambuilding sessions. Divorced with four children, 9 grandkids, and 2 great-grandsons, he remarried after 30 years. Luba is from St. Petersburg, Russia, and their meeting, both agree, was a cosmic conspiracy of destiny, spiritual compatibility, and future vision of a newly ordered world in harmony with natural order. After 47 years of preparation, and stepping into what feels like fulfilling destiny, he recently became the Executive Director of the Live and Let Live Global Peace Movement that is inspiring the world now.

  1. This is such an agile and timely post. Zen.

I wanted to highlight the part in which you wrote “For many years as a coach and consultant for business affairs, the truth is revealed of happy people getting more done with less supervision and exceeding expectations given the power to do so. Any critical thinking and deductive logic reveals that fact”. However. Aldo covered the same in his comment.

This is a great thought to keep in mind.

  2. Business agility opens our eyes to the fact that companies revolve around people, not the other way around. The focus of each business activity and strategy therefore passes from increasing turnover to increasing the value generated for people. And we can be sure that, once this second objective is reached, the first will not fail to be realized.
There are many challenges to face: globalization, digital revolution, demographic changes, new business models. These challenges require a new, more balanced and inclusive leadership, capable of creating value not only for companies, but also for the whole
community. The environmental issue must be at the center of the daily agenda, both political and economic, cultural and social, to get back in tune with the Planet and rediscover the lost balance.
