A Stroll Around Pristine Moorland

A few minutes’ walk from Winchester’s center is a large expanse of Pristine moorland, rivers, streams, and water meadows. Spectacular scenes of trees, woodland, and pastures alive with birdsong; ‎ swans adorning rivers with grace and splendor almost divine.

This peaceful ‎refuge in a busy world where it is all too easy to walk past such magical gifts of nature without a second thought.

Recognition of peace awaits those who wish to climb aboard the platform to calmness and serenity. A blessing to all who cherish and appreciate and love Mother Nature’s Gift.

Tall grass and reeds form a green ‘passageway’ on each side of the path beside gently flowing River Itchen. Close by the river is a small, wooden bridge. A little robin sitting on the top; all alone, looking half asleep, undeterred at being approached. So much so I was able to take a photo of this little chap from less than two feet away. This robin was very scruffy and could certainly have done with a visit to a ‘feather-dresser! There was an inquisitive look on its face, projecting a thought that humans are mostly not a threat and unlike ducks, do not regard robins as a tasty snack.

Robins and blackbirds have a friendly but alert manner. A robin will land upon a table where folk could be eating a scone, jam, and cream. Perhaps a few scone crumbs would be appropriate. This experience is real.

These moors are spectacular. Not far from a busy freeway, but wherever one looks, but as far as you can see, is a horizon of trees. ‎No traffic noise. Just an environment that could be in the middle of a vast country area void of towns and cities.

Stand still and close your eyes.  Surrounded by woodland, rivers, and downs attracts an almost ethereal phenomenon‎. With one of the senses closed off, alertness takes over;  but not in a ‘guarded’ way. More of a gentle influence. Sounds of birds and rippling river, splashing of ducks, a  slight breeze rustling leaves and rushes become ever more vivid. In the imagination visual;  other senses enhanced.

But there is something more. As if closing one’s eyes,  heart and senses become one with the natural world and Universe. Pure synergy. As if a gentle curtain envelops body and soul enhancing one’s senses; no barriers, only beautifully gentle vibes. Sounds become more vivid‎. A natural energy. Senses enhanced as if hand in hand with Mother Nature. Almost a physical feeling as if a divine presence; perhaps an angel had spread her wings around the person whose eyes were closed.

On eyes opening the proximity of such a visitation does not fade away, revealing an even more splendid realization that Nature is indeed a gift to humankind. The angel’s wings slowly depart, but leaving a memory that will remain forever in the heart.

Next time‎ eyes are closed as if falling asleep, a dream already awaits. A‎ dream of Nature’s Blessing.

Next time you are in the countryside, perhaps by a river or lake, woodland or grassland, close your eyes and await a visitation. With eyes closed your senses are released anew.

Closing eyes, surreal visit
Nature’s embracing, gentle arms
Acknowledging trust and faith in Heaven

Wonderful memories
Never forgotten, ordained in mind
An angel’s wings caress the senses
Heart follows pathway‎ of light

Closing eyes a new dimension
Opening senses
Inviting surreal
Experience sublime

A curtain of serenity
Envelops the soul
With eyes closed
Vivid scenes alive

Once released
Eyes open wide
Nature’s blessing
Universe Divine

Simon's forté is creative writing; the accent on the natural environment, transforming feelings, emotions, sights, sounds, and scents of Mother Nature's landscape; hills and rivers and woodland into words, transporting the reader to the locations. Essays include accounts of his life in former days. Instinctively writing in such a spontaneous manner, descriptions become life-like. His often emotionally charged writing, whether describing a surreal 'Son et Lumière' at the Grand Place in Brussels to experiences acquired during European business travel. Journaling and Exhibition Steward activities are his key sources of inspiration and creativity. Kindness is ever more important, where he is a promoter of Shelly Elsliger PPCC's 'Decide to be Kind' Campaign.
