Outcomes
So, I’ve talked about the fact that nonprofits need to innovate and then talked a little about what innovation is. What would be the outcome from innovation in the nonprofit, or for-purpose space?
EDITOR’S NOTE: SEE PART 2 BELOW⤵︎
One first step in innovation for social change is to include for-purpose businesses. It’s irrelevant whether an issue is solved by a for-profit, non-profit, or social enterprise. Far too often, people get hung up on labels. They feel it MUST be addressed by non-profits. This severely limits the creativity of the thought process, the funding that can be brought to bear, and the people who will participate in the solution.
What, if there were facilitated sessions in 100 locations and each came up with 10 ideas, a total of 1,000 ideas produced? If these ideas were then shared by the public, who knows what could happen.
Would someone come up with the next TripProximity? The next Hot Chicken Takeover?
If we shared these ideas across the country or across the world, would someone see an idea and realize, ‘I’m doing that! Maybe others would be interested in my experience!”
What if we had plans and were able to:
- Spin off new businesses
- Derive ideas for new products that can be produced by existing businesses
- Develop ideas for new nonprofits
- Find new programs for existing nonprofits
- Build new social ventures
What if it were a competition where the winner got money either to build a new business or to donate to what that person considered a worthy cause?
That would lead to innovation.
This is not the end of the innovative process. Rather just the beginning.
I’m looking for innovators of all stripes who want to identify unique and actionable solutions to today’s biggest problems. All you need is; 1) A passion to find solutions to help others; 2) A willingness to “throw out the playbook”; 3) An eagerness to be part of a pioneering team.
If you believe in the saying, “Don’t tell me why it won’t work, tell me how to make it work,” or “Those who say it is impossible should get out of the way of those of us who are doing it,” I’d love to connect and discuss possibilities. Let’s get together, build the ground floor and design this movement of catalysts to “Help others to help others”. Reach out to me below ⤵︎
