I will light candles this morning
to make amends for yesterday
to befriend my beleaguered heart
to find my way into the light
and lightness I seek

I will begin again. I will turn
yesterday’s meltdown
into a makeover
full of meaning and magic
and courage and moxie

Today I will begin again to be
faithfully compassionate
to my beautiful self
and faithful to the beneficent
God of my understanding

I will put aside the nebulous self-pity
that threatens to shift my fullest
expression of personhood
into raging moments of victimhood
which never do anyone any good

Today, I will trust the flow of life
and open generously to surprises
of all sizes and magnitudes
including everyday miracles
and every which way wonderment

I will embrace the ALL of it
with unwavering gratitude
and an attitude of grace
in the face of just what’s so
and whatever might yet unfold

Show me the way
to a beautiful day
Show me the way
to peace and ease and unbridled joy
Show me the way
to stay and play in harmony
with all that is and just what’s so

Thy will be done. Show me.

  1. Thank you so much for posting this. It is raw and real and written just days ago. It was writing the poem that showed me the way up and through. It’s why I so often feel that the words are coming through me onto the page. And I am always grateful. And grateful to you Dennis Pitocco for posting it.

    • Interesting that you say that Eva Marie. I shared it with a few friends hot off the page and each one said that it had reached them at the perfect time, inviting them to find a way through their own despair. As Ram Dass said, “ We are all just walking each other home.” I cherish the power of words and so, sometimes with all the courage I can muster, I share something like this. Thanks for appreciating.
