A day trip to Blackpool, a lively seaside town in Lancashire, England, offers a mix of classic British coastal charm, thrilling attractions, and scenic beauty. Here’s a suggested itinerary for a fun-filled day:
My trip began with an early morning train ride from Manchester, UK to the seaside town. The train ride was pleasant and the station in Blackpool is located conveniently in the town with a short walk to the main part of the Blackpool. This day trip was full of walking, but you can hop on one of the heritage trams that run along the coast for a nostalgic ride and a chance to see more of the town.
Of course, a few cups of coffee were first (I’m continuing my search for the best cup of coffee.) My first two stops.
- Coffee Americano
- The Coffee Pot
Then I enjoyed walking around the town, it’s full of beautiful architecture! Next, I headed to the iconic Blackpool Tower, a 518-foot Victorian landmark inspired by the Eiffel Tower. You can take the lift to the Tower Eye for panoramic views of the coastline or explore the Tower Circus or Ballroom if they’re open during your visit—check schedules ahead of time. It’s a great spot to feel the town’s historic vibe.
Then it was off to the beach area which was small due to the tide but enjoyable to sit and relax after walking. The next stop was the Blackport North Pier which is was a great walk to the end to have a Gin at Blooms!
I grabbed a classic seaside lunch—fish and chips from a spot like Yorkshire Fisheries (a local favorite since 1907).
Alternatives for families and thrill seekers.
Visit the Sandcastle Waterpark for indoor water fun (great if the weather turns) or explore Stanley Park, a beautiful green space with gardens and a boating lake, just a short bus ride inland.
For a dose of adrenaline, make your way to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, one of the UK’s most famous amusement parks, just a short walk or tram ride south along the Promenade. Thrill-seekers can ride the Big One, a towering rollercoaster, or the historic Grand National, a wooden coaster from 1935. If you’re with family or prefer something gentler, there are plenty of smaller rides and arcade games too.
Blackpool’s charm lies in its blend of retro seaside fun and modern attractions, so tailor the day to your pace—whether it’s thrills, relaxation, or a bit of both!
