We must remember not to limit ourselves.
I’d spent my entire savings—but now I owned a beautifully remodeled mobile home in a senior’s park, a place where I could truly enjoy my retirement. In this comfortable and peaceful setting, I planned to live with my little dog Paris until our last days.
My world was shattered four years later.
Without warning or legal notices, disaster struck. The mobile home park was closing! Suddenly, all of us had to make a decision: We could move our homes to a different site or abandon them.
The nightmare unraveled as the rug was pulled from beneath us. Places to move were scarce and we didn’t know where to go, or exactly when the park was going to close. The park owners used scare tactics to get us to move out now!
Many people left, shell-shocked, and scrambled to find other accommodations. My situation was a little more complicated, as I still owed a small mortgage on my home. I had to make sure to time my move correctly.
During this difficult transition, a dear lady passed along a message from God to me. “Ask God to open doors,” she said. “Investigate which doors need to be tried, to see if they might open. Don’t limit yourself, even when an option appears to be out of reach.”
God warned me, through this woman, not to be distracted by “not-for-me” thinking. I was told to have the courage to try new options, because I wouldn’t need to compromise on the most important things.
My search began for a new place to call home.
