8 Unconventional Tips for New Entrepreneurs

The internet is littered with advice for those starting up their own business ventures. You can barely move without coming across the same old tired advice on how to make your new company successful.

However, times have changed and so has the business landscape. This requires a fresh look at business start-ups and the advice that is given needs to match our current times.

In this article, we explore the pieces of advice that new entrepreneurs need to hear to become successful in the modern business world.

  1. You Don’t Have to Follow Your Passion

Success in business is often linked to people who followed their passion and made their dreams come true. While this is certainly true it not the most common form of entrepreneurial success.

You don’t have to love what you do to succeed in business but you can’t hate it either. Most successful business owners these days pursue business ventures that they enjoy but they don’t necessarily love what they do and nor do they have to.

Instead, do something you enjoy, play to your strengths and do something that you like enough that you won’t absolutely despise it after two years. This is usually the time when a business owner’s passion runs short and people decide to give in. Those that hate their work usually stop at this point.

  1. Practice Mindfulness

We’re not saying turn into a spiritual guru but practicing mindfulness is an incredible way to stay focused and on track in business.

Business is often a deeply emotional affair. You battle various emotions all the time from elated joy when you win a new client to utter depression when you lose one. Practicing mindfulness can help you to objectively look at your emotions and decide on which ones are worth the energy and which ones are wasting precious time.

This doesn’t mean you don’t get upset when something goes wrong. You can still get angry or upset and express it but with mindfulness, you might start spending a lot less time being angry and more time solving the issue. The difference can be a matter of succeeding and failing.

  1. You Can’t Be “Self-Made”

When successful people say they are “self-made” what they actually mean is their ego is enjoying being rich and powerful. The reality is that no one person is “self-made”, we all require friends, business connections, partners, family, and other people to open doors for us.

Is Tesla’s, Apple’s or Google’s success all down to one person? No, they have all hired thousands of people from all over the world from the best colleges to the best boarding schools. Talent acquisition is the number one priority in any business. You will need to do the same thing and you’re deluded if you think you’re going to do it by yourself.

A big part of being successful in business is to allow others to help you and you help them in return. Grow successful together because it’s a million times harder on your own.

  1. Keep It Simple

A successful business keeps things simple and helps make anything complex, simpler. This a great way of looking at all your business operations. The aim should always be to simplify everything as much as possible.

Simplicity sells. Big companies make their products simple to find, simple to buy, simple to use, simple to fix, and simple to keep buying again and again. Nobody wants to deal with a complicated business.

The modern business landscape demands everything to be simple for it to be useful and attractive. This will include everything from your website design to the way in which your customers communicate with your business.

  1. Forget About the Money

Ok, so money is obviously imperative to the success of a business but it shouldn’t be the driving force.

Innovation, helping people, sustainability, adding value, and making things easier. These are good reasons to create a operate a successful business. When a company is purely driven by the money it shows on their website, product, brand image, and even you, the owner.

Successful companies are run by people who want to change the world for the better. Money does not equal success, it is only a means to further improve and add more value to your customer’s lives.

  1. Stay Humble, Sit Down

The good times are great and the bad times are terrible. It’s essential that throughout all of the ups and downs that you stay humble and grounded.

Never read to much into a situation when running a  business. If you lost three clients last months that doesn’t mean you should give up, it may just be a new opportunity for better clients. If you can’t stop winning new clients, that doesn’t mean your the best in the game and thinking this way may lead you to lose them even quicker than you gained them.

Stay humble, stay focused, stay grounded, and keep focusing on your goals. Don’t let anything get to your head.

  1. Stay Uncomfortable

If you ever feel comfortable during your business venture then it’s likely that you aren’t doing enough. Being uncomfortable is a good thing, it means you are doing new things, pushing boundaries, and being innovative.

When you are comfortable, there is nothing pushing you to advance forward. This can be a very vulnerable position for any business. You never know who is around the corner waiting to outdo you and advance right on past along with your customers.

Stay up to date, stay on top of the latest advances in your industry, and make sure you ar on top of your game at all times.

  1. Spend Money

Problems in startups occur when owners start to hoard their money like greedy dragons locked up in their lair. You must spend money to make money even if it scares you.

Always research the latest hardware and software. Which can help your business? Which will help your customers? Which will help make you more competitive? Which has the best ROI?

Technology is always helping to push businesses further to do great things, don’t get left behind in fear of losing some money of tech that didn’t work out.
