A DECADE+ OF STORYTELLING POWERED BY THE BEST WRITERS ON THE PLANET

$600

I’m glad that the government finally came up with a plan to ease the hardship and worry of so many people.

I do wish, however, that they had a way to be more judicious about distributing $600 to everyone.  Many need it more than I, for sure. That would probably be an administrative nightmare and would fuel more anger and vitriol at the selection process and rationale of who gets it and who doesn’t.

Then I thought….well, I could at least pass mine along to those who really need it….people who can’t pay the rent and put food on the table because their work “went away.”

I wonder if there are more like me who wonder why we’re getting a handout, and wish the government would have been more discerning?

If so, join me in redistributing your portion to those who may be more needy.

Where would that $600 do the most good?

  1. $600 is paltry and won’t be that much help to those in serious need. I agree with President Trump that the citizens should get more and the pork should be cut as should money to illegal aliens. We need to take care of our citizenry that has serious needs. No money to pet projects, no money to other countries, no money to libraries (mostly closed now), and no money to those not in need. Those responsible for this proposed fat laden bill should be held legally accountable. We need a line item veto bill for starters.

    • I agree with you, Ken. The origin of my post is based on my thoughts throughout the pandemic, as I realize how blessed (and how sheltered) I have been throughout my life. I no longer see folks like me who have corporate safety nets as my neighbors, but folks who have a fragile infrastructure, for one reason or another, which has been shattered. This has been a big deal for me – and ah ha moment that has lasted several months. I’m still working through what it all means, but the pandemic has fundamentally changed who I am. Now I just have to figure out what to do with it.

  2. Dear Carol,

What can be a constructive idea is to secure the agreement of a whole bunch of well-off but in no way wealthy, and with the x thousand dollars, build a center for overnight shelters or food banks.

Focusing one one location in a specific area, gather a few thousand bucks, would make a difference; more so than an isolated $600.

    Just an idea.

Wishing you a pleasant Christmas and a New Year built upon Optimism and Kindness.

    Simon
