There are millions of blogs on the world wide web, and it is a truly global pastime and business, but if you want your blog to be the one that stands head and shoulders above the rest of them, how do you do this? It is easy to start and run a blog, but depending what you want to do with it you will find it hard work to make that blog successful, so in this article, I want to talk to you about the five areas I concentrate on when am writing an article for my blog, and this will help your blog post have a powerful impact.
Your title is the most important part of your blog post and should be given the attention it deserves because your title is your posts attention grabber and without a good one your post will be overlooked.
A title should be no more than 5/6 words in length, this is because for example when a google search is made Google will only show up a limited number words of a title if your title is longer than that it will be followed by …. and the reader wouldn’t have a clue.
Make your title exciting and imaginative, readers love lists, so use a number in your title if you can, or a negative/positive, but make your title eye-catching, make the reader want to read your article if your title is bland the reader won’t give it a second thought.
What is your blog all about? When you start a blog you would usually have an idea what it is you want to write about, but you will be surprised by how many new bloggers don’t know what they will write about in their blog and they just write random articles, which is fine if you are just writing for fun, or you are not too bothered about how many visitors you get, but if you want your blog to take off, or you are serious about making blogging your profession then you must have a niche that you are knowledgeable about, and you must stick with that niche.
Picking your niche is important, it may well be something that is trending at the time and is of general interest to a lot of people, or you may pick a more specialized topic which is for a far smaller targeted audience, but whatever your topic you must write interesting and useful subject matter that your reader will find informative and useful, and this will encourage your visitors to come back to your blog time and time again. But whatever you do, do not write fluff, it’s boring and you will lose your following very quickly. So to sum up.
- RESEARCH YOUR NICHE
- STICK WITH THAT NICHE
- PICK A TOPIC YOU ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT
- WRITE USEFUL INFORMATIVE ARTICLES
- TARGET YOUR AUDIENCE
CONTENT IS KING
The blood and guts of any blog are the content that you write, without good content you have nothing.
Writers can roll out content without even thinking about it, but to write good content takes time, expertise, and patience, so you don’t just write anything just to fill your blog, because your blog is your pride and joy, it’s like your home, you want it to be just right. Some professional bloggers will only write one post a month because it takes them that long to write an article that they are happy with and they know their readers will be happy with, the point is good content posted regularly whether it’s one a month or five a month is the key to success, but be warned, this only happens over a period of time, you must be patient, it’s all about the long game.
Your blog post should be written so the audience has a clear and concise understanding of what they are reading, it should be grammatically good, it should be informative and interesting, and most importantly you should break your post up into small sections, this makes the reader digest what you have written far easier and the reader does not get bored. The perfect post length is between 1000 and 1800 words but this is not written in stone, what works for you is good.
CONTENT IS KING, TREAT IT WITH THE RESPECT IT DESERVES.
- Write informative articles
- Use good grammar
- Be clear and concise
- Write the article in small sections
