I’m traveling to Las Vegas this week after a week traveling to New York. Being on the road, away from home, and out of my usual routine requires me to pay more attention to my daily practices and way of being. It made me think of how important and yet simple it can be to live life consciously and enhance our experience of life.

Living a conscious life doesn’t have to be complicated or overwhelming. In fact, it’s the simple things we do every day that can make the biggest difference. By being mindful of our thoughts, actions, relationships, and behavior, we can bring alignment with our values and purpose. Doing so creates a life that is more meaningful and fulfilling.

Here are five simple, easy ways to live life more consciously, thereby helping to bring greater meaning and peace into your days.

1. Start your day with intention.

Take a few moments each morning to set your intentions for the day. When you start your day with intention, you are setting the tone for the rest of your day and aligning yourself with your values and goals.

  • What do you want to accomplish?
  • How do you want to feel?
  • What kind of person do you want to be?

2. Practice mindfulness.

Mindfulness is the act of being present and fully engaged at the moment…observe your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings without judgment.

You can practice mindfulness every moment of your day. Feel the chair underneath you. Take a conscious breath. Hear your tone of voice. Feel the warm water on your hands as you rinse off dishes. When you are mindful, you are more centered and relaxed and therefore more able to make conscious choices aligned with who you want to be.

3. Connect with nature.

I walk my dog, Zozo, every day through a nature preserve. Nature grounds us and helps us to feel connected to something greater than ourselves.

Go for a walk in the park, or simply sit outside and take in the beauty of the world around you. Therapists in Europe often prescribe “Nature Therapy” due to the healing, and restorative benefits of being outdoors. When you are in nature, you are reminded of the wonder and beauty of life, and this can inspire you to live more consciously.

4. Practice self-reflection.

I start every day with “quiet time.” This is my time to meditate, pray, review my goals, set my daily intentions, and examine my thoughts, feelings, and actions. Engage in a practice such as journaling, meditation, or simply taking a few moments each day to reflect on your experiences and mood. By engaging in regular self-reflection, you can gain insight into your patterns of thinking and behavior, and make conscious choices that align with your values and goals.

5. Know your values.

One of the best ways to live consciously is to know yourself deeply. Reflect on and determine what 5 to 10 values you want to be your guiding principles in life, and then do all you can to live aligned with these values in all you do and say. Easier said than done, but I promise you, you will like yourself a whole lot more and feel better about your life.

Living a conscious life is about being present, aware, and intentional in everything you do. It’s about connecting with your values and making choices that align with them.

By practicing these tips, you can live a life that is more meaningful, fulfilling, and inspiring. Remember, the power of living consciously lies in the present moment, so embrace it and make the most of it.
