As women, we’re notoriously hard on ourselves – especially our bodies. I hear it all the time from clients, friends, family members, strangers… you get the picture.
Have you noticed how often women criticize their own bodies? Have you taken note at how often you criticize your body? As a society we’re very focused on what size we wear and our weight, always wanting to put a number (or letters) to our bodies. And I get it, I get caught up in it myself at times.
But the truth is no matter what size you wear, you can look and feel amazing (really, you can!). People tell me all the time, “I’ll worry about what I wear when I’m at my goal weight.” I’m not saying you shouldn’t have goals like that for yourself, because I think those are great; however, I do think you deserve to look and feel your best along the way.
Personally, one of my missions in life is really to help women look amazing and feel more confident about their appearance. My clients range in size and shape, and I love working with each of them to teach them that no matter what “size” they’re wearing, they CAN look incredible. And you know what? They always feel great, too.
While I, unfortunately, can’t change the models in magazines or the celebrities our society holds up as an appearance standard, I can give you some of my tried and tested tips for looking and feeling your best (regardless of your size). So, here they are!
Fit is KEY!
This is a hard one for women, because (like I said before) we’re so focused on the number or letter ‘size’ on that dreaded size tag. Keep in mind, clothing is not all made to fit the same, and clothing is made for the masses.
So yes, you may be a medium in one brand and a large in another, but don’t stress about it. It’s NOT YOU, it’s the clothes. I know it can be frustrating, but we don’t live in a society that has any standardized sizing structure. The best way to shop is to try on multiple sizes in the same garment, ignore the size on that tag, and really go for the piece that FITS the best.
