3 Old School Steps To Grow A Business

More and more people are turning to technology to increase revenue for their businesses. They’re looking at purchasing new software, using social media marketing strategists, hiring virtual assistants abroad, etc., all to grow their businesses faster than ever before with minimal effort. Unfortunately, most of them don’t realize that there is another option that is often forgotten about in the age of high technolog

GOING OLD SCHOOL

It’s not an actual place you can travel to. Still, it is something that businesses should visit when they want to grow their business that doesn’t involve social media or modernizing any part of the company.  There are three steps to heal your business by going old school.

STEP ONE: CONSULT WITH OTHERS

The first step in growing your business is making sure you’re doing everything right in the eyes of others around you or in your industry. You might be close to your product, service, or website, so much so that you may think it’s perfect until someone else tells you otherwise. Remember, there’s always room for improvement, and if no one has ever pointed this out, then it may be time to consult with others.

The best part about this step is that it doesn’t cost anything. All you have to do is ask. Here are some examples:

  • “Is the logo too small?”
  • “Does my website need a better layout or design?”
  • “I’m thinking of hiring a marketing team… what do you think?”

These are all questions you can ask people around you to gather more information on how they feel about certain things related to your business, which will help you improve on parts that could use work.

STEP TWO: GET INVOLVED IN A PROGRAM

While going old school may have been one of the most common ways to run a business back in the day, some aspects of running a business haven’t changed as much as we think.  One factor that has stayed relatively the same over time is an apprenticeship or internship.  Many people don’t realize it, but getting involved with one of these programs can be beneficial for both parties involved because both sides learn from each other.

And just because you’re going old school doesn’t mean that you have to leave technology out of this equation either. Today, many online programs teach students the basics of what businesses were like back in the day: writing business plans, creating budgets, developing strategies, and more. Some even offer additional perks such as mentorship opportunities and free services provided by professionals who work for those types of companies.

STEP THREE: GET BACK TO THE FOUNDATIONS

The most crucial part of going old school is to make sure you understand the basics.  Yes, there are indeed all sorts of technology out there nowadays, but they weren’t always available, and most companies survived without them. So before you start thinking about giving yourself a social media face-lift or updating your website with some fancy new designs, take time to go back and study how successful companies were built in the past. Learn what made these businesses great and apply this information to your own company so you can build it up from the ground up one step at a time. They all had a great name too, so consider using reputation management services to keep your company in good standing. This will give you a clear vision of what needs to be done and where changes must be made.

MAKE IT WORK

Running a business in the 21 st century doesn’t mean you have to go over the top with technology; it just means knowing how to use this modern technology correctly when necessary. Most companies didn’t have all this fancy stuff at their disposal, but they still succeeded in getting their name out there and building up an empire.  So whether you decide to go old school or not, the most important thing is to take action.
