2013 has been a year of disappointing growth. When we look back at the forecasts that were made for GDP growth last year, they were much higher than what we are likely to have seen this year. It is true that the world economy is performing a bit better now as we’re coming to the end of the year, but compared with the start of the year, growth is much weaker. One area where it has been particularly weak has been in the emerging markets where about a year ago people were expecting 6% growth and now it looks like it’s going to be about 4.5%.
